Something historic is happening tomorrow in the National Football League: Shannon Eastin will become the first female line judge to referee a professional game when she calls the preseason opener between the Green Bay Packers and the San Diego Chargers.

Why there haven't been female refs before, I have no idea. There should have been and I hope she's the first of a long line.

What if the glass really *was* half empty?.

I finally figured out why "You've never had a romantic relationship/how did you ever get a romantic relationship" or some variant thereof bugs the living hell out of me. I've only heard it said in reference to guys, 99% of the time geeky guys.

Do you know *HOW* geeky guys who want a relationship with a woman often find romance? There are geeky women! There are! They exist! I'm proof!

AUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!

I'm a bisexual female gamer who's a major geek on many levels. So, apparently, I'm akin to the Loch Ness Monster!

Bah. Bah, I say.

[profile] magsmom said something very smart and I agree with every word.

“My friend group has a case of the Creepy Dude. How do we clear that up?”.

It's a good read. Long story short, *SUPPORT PEOPLE WHO ARE COMPLAINING OF HARRASSMENT*. Short story long, read it. :)

Oh good. The storm finally broke. My head may not literally explode.

Unfortunately, a lot of men are brainwashed into thinking that only emmaciated models are the ideal women. Most other women don't even register with them. I've also found that how much attention a man will pay to you in is direct proportion of how much he wants to fuck you.

Which is why it's so important to have a wide variety of beauty ideals, instead of the strict one society sets up.

It's a travesty that they haven't had a woman ref before, but the referee union is not working the games due to a contract dispute so they are bringing her in as a scab. That sucks for everyone.

John Scalzi also wrote about not being a Gods damned creeper recently.

And don't get me started on the whole being a loch ness monster/unicorn/mythical creature business. I will start throwing d4's at people!

I LOVED the Creepy Dude piece. Very well said. And most of the discussions in the comments were appropriate and insightful.(Did you see the "loser dance" bit?)

Several men I know, however, have reacted with the same enthusiasm as if asked to watch a natural childbirth film. (Huh. This is kind of gross and scary, really.) But maybe they could work their way up, starting with John Scalzi's new post (at whatever.scalzi.com) on how not to be a creeper.

I have forwarded Creepy Dude to my sibs, in hopes that they'll share it with their teenaged boys and girls. Always be prepared, right?

It's out there -- they won't be able to avoid it -- so kids should be taught how to deal with it.

i think you're missing the point about the "never had a relationship" geeky guys - sure, there are geeky women, but they're not that much likelier to just fall into your lap than non-geeky women are.

Nerdy gamer guys say that when they are young because they want Head Cheerleader to be they're girlfriend. People can be shallow even if they aren't a cool kid, and it is infuriating! I, too, am a nerd and have a brain and couldn't understand why nerdy boys weren't asking me out--until I'd find out they were hung up on a Hot Girl.

phew. their rather. It's the end of the day on Friday, I can't be held to grammar standards. :)
