(no subject)

I love the Lj Talk Like A Pirate Day motif. And hey, I changed my layout just in time. Arrr, arrrrr I say!

~~~
[livejournal.com profile] epi_lj and [livejournal.com profile] murnkay both mentioned these batteries that can me recharged via usb ports. Just too bloody cool.
~~~

Yesterday sucked *so* much. Today is better. I am pleased. For, as you know, it's getting better all the ti-i-ihme. (Couldn't get much worse.)

~~~
Jeff tried out a volvo today...it didn't have enough headroom for him...he's 6'6", but I think this is the first time that's happened since I've known him. (He used to drive cars from the train yard to the car lots when we first got together, so his sample is bigger than most.) Oh well. The search continues.
And *then*, when we get the check from the insurance company, we can go looking for a van for us. Oh goody. :p
Not that I don't want "new" vehicles. I do. I know his having one to get him from the train station to work saves him a lot of time and walking. And it's kind of nice to have a vehicle at home too...but getting from here to there is hassleful. (Not Hasslehoff. Though, it'd be cool if we could get a sentient car. They're probably beyond our budget though...)
So, apparently, Rob Schnider wrote a letter to Variety, stating that because of his behavior, Rob would never work with Mel Gibson.
I think Mel Gibson is a jerk...I used to be a big fan, but that was before he dipped into his store of psycho pills. But, I really don't think he read the letter and felt really bad about everything because, now, he wouldn't be able to work with the guy who's credits include The Animal and both Duce Bigalow movies.
~~~

We had Jeff's dad's car through this morning, so Jeff stopped at the market on his way home from work last night. He picked up a glass of Pomegranate & Blackberry Black Tea for me. Yeah, it's in a *Glass*...beyond tasting just so good, that's bloody nifty. It's the first time I've had anything by Pom. It's a good introduction.

~~~
The puppy in one of the houses behind us is *very* serious about something. I don't know what it is, but he's gonna take care of it, so no worries. ;)
The backyards don't have back fences (I still don't get that...), so the puppy's on a lead that's screwed into the ground so he can wander around but not wander off. He can also see everything, including whatever's setting him off. (They're not neglecting him...he's on the lead for about half an hour a day. Though, I suppose it's more a stay than a lead.)
~~~

Well, that's interesting. LEDs in clothes that let people know what your emotions are. Would wearing this *with* my mood ring be too much?;)

Of course, this indicates one's mood no more than a mood ring does. It indicates one's *temperature*. Which means mine would always be slightly red and my mother's would always be slightly blue. I wonder if that means Sammy's would be just right. ;)

~~~
Talk Like a Pirate Day helped Sam with her reading. She was having trouble saying "Rug" with the R present, so I said "Say Ruff like a puppy." and she did. Then I said "Now say aRRRRRRRR like a pirate", and she did. "Now say RaaaRRRRRR like a bear", and she did that as well. Then, she was able to say Rug far more clearly. Yay for puppies and pirates and bears. (oh my)
I can't remember where I saw the link for this, but it's just completely cool.
It's a nice looking recycling bin that utilizes plastic shopping bags. They're currently only available in the UK and not in wide release there, but if they do get to this side of the pond, I totally want one.
~~~

Ooh, hey [livejournal.com profile] jenny_junipurr, look! Ask Meta Filter. Where anyone can ask questions and anyone else can answer them.

~~~
I think that's it for now. I was a good wench (aren't I always, she asked the Callahanians) and took my pills, so I should be sane for the rest of the day. One can but hope. *grin*
Scions (the square ones) and Priuses both have lots of headroom. Casey's very comfy in both.
We were informed by our recycling company that it is not allowed to sort recyclables into plastic bags. Apparently the bags "choke" up the system at the plant. I have no idea how or why this is, but they won't pick up anything if we have it in plastic bags -- only straight into the plastic bins they provide, or in paper sacks. Just FYI. I have no idea how widespread this problem is.
In most parts of UK recyclables are put into large bins or collection points. You don't actually PUT the BAG in, as well. It's just a way to get it from point a to point b. I think, although I'm not sure, that there are also areas with a generic bin for recyclable stuff. It all goes in there, and gets sorted at the trash center, so plastic bags wouldn't be an issue there.
The plastic bags used in the states used to be made from a type of plastic that isn't approved for food containers, which is why you can't just sort your recyclables into them. Many of them are also printed with non-food-grade inks, which also makes them unsuitable for recycling. A lot of stores have places where you can take them back to be recycled into more bags, or those fake-wood-plank things, so not all is lost.
(~$80 for one of those seems awfully expensive. they have similar things at ikea for $15)
mel gibson might not be upset about it, but it makes me like/respect rob schneider a whole lot more. which i think would be part of the point.
*follows link* Nifty! I could get lost here for quite some time. *grin*
(Although I MOST like it when people really want ME to answer questions, and not just, you know, anyone who comes along. *grin* But I'll take what I can get! ;)
Yay for puppies and pirates and bears! Yo ho ho! :)
Sadly, the suck just moved my way today. I REALLY hope tomorrow is better!
Love you.
You know, the LED mood clothing is a neat idea in principle, but in practice it looks like your mood would *always* be, "OW!! Holy crap this outfit is uncomfortable!"
heh. we're thinking about getting one of those leads for lexxie so she can run around some. but i wouldn't leave her out there all day.
My sweetie is 6'10" and he and I both own Subaru Foresters. Amazingly good headroom and he says he will probably always own a Subaru of one kind or another if they don't screw up and take the headroom away in future models.
[identity profile] darthgeek.livejournal.com 2006-09-21 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
My budget for a commuter car is $1000. So far, I haven't found any Subarus for that or under that still run.
In elementary school, I went through Speech Therapy. Had a bit of trouble with my Rs sounding like Ws.
We did a Rooster sound "err errr errr err errrrrrrr"
That's about all I remember from Speech therapy, but I usually say my Rs correctly now.. unless I'm tired, rushing, or stressed a *lot*.
and I'm usually tired so....
This is weally a twue storwee. :)
My dad is six ft 4 in and can sit in my car with a few inches to spare, both headwise and legwise, FYI. It's a Toyota Matrix. Great mileage too.
