One of the books I'm currently reading is "Don't know much about the bible", by Kenneth C. Davis...very interesting.
I was reading the bit about the two creations in Genesis and was running down the list of the first one "Created heavens and Earth, then light, then day and night", etc. And I realized that it would have taken me *forever* to do that. Not because of the skill it would take to make everything, but because it would take me *years* to get the colors right.
Hell, it took me ten minutes and three trips to the options window to get the colors in my mail program right!
Yes, I do scare me sometimes. Thanks for asking. ;)
Hmmm...I should go do a search on Urban Fantasy...I need a book list. Maybe I'll just ask on AC...if nothing else, I'll get an interesting discussion...and hopefully a lot of titles/authors.
Still disappointed with "The Little Country"...I'm going to put it away for a while..maybe it'll be better with age.
My mom has only a handful of books she hasn't finished...I don't know how she does it. It could be that she's pickier than me...and, I *do* read more than she does (or at least, I did when I left home a few years ago...that could have changed.), so I've got more chance to pick up something awful. Still, while I admire her resolve, I doubt I'll adopt the policy.
What I'd really like is a book I can fall into...something three to a thousand pages that will take me to a world apart. But those are really hard to *find*...they seem to hide when I actively seek them. Its all a plot, I tell you.
And if some of the books I've picked up lately *had* a plot, things would be a lot better. ;)

Honestly, I'll read stuff from every genre...I don't do as much horror as I used to, but I can't rule it out entirely, 'cause some of the stuff I read is classified that way, even if I don't see it as such. (FEx, the Sonja Blue and Anita Blake novels.) I generally don't read "Romance" novels (ie books in the Romance section), 'cause so many of them are formulaic(sp?)...but if its recommened, I'll at least give it a peruse. :)
Re:
P.J. O`Rourke--political humorist. Although not always. I have bought all of my friends a copy of Modern Manners for Rude People.
Raymod E. Feist--Faerie Tale. Not horror, more of suspense.
Gini Sykes--8 Ball Chicks. Not usually stuff I read, but it was really fascinating seeing gangs from the female perspective.
Hope those are some ideas at least :)

Daniel suggested The Black Company series (I think), by Glenn Cook...they didn't have it last time I was at a bookstore, but its on my "Look for" list. (I know enough about the storyline to find it without the title.:)
I've read my way through the Ender series...I loved the first two...the others were ok...I adore the books about Bean though. I was hoping for a lot, but not expecting too much more than the same stories from a different perspective...but they could stand alone. I'm looking forward to the next one.:)
I mean to start reading the Alvin Maker series...but for some reason, the stores I go to tend to not have the first one. I truly dislike reading a series from the middle out.
That's why I'm waitingwaitingwaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiting for the next Anita Blake novel...'cause I read the last two, and now that I know everything that happens, reading the first ones wouldn't be much fun. (October...*yay* :)

I'm printing your list out and taking it with me tonight. Yay! Lotso books. *grin*
Speaking of Oprah's club...which, imneho, used to be pretty good...have you read "She's Come Undone"? I adored it (his next book was...huge and odd. Not in a fun way.).

At work, we joke that books come in three sizes. Cloth/hardback, mass-market/paperback, and Oprah. :)

I like studying religious texts...for one thing, I can say "Really? From what I've read, meant , not that everyone who even thought of doing that should be hung by their toes till dead, in the middle of the square, on a tuesday morning." Plus...I want to know everything. *grin*
